H1N1 contributed to pregnant woman’s death

A 25-year-old pregnant woman who died Friday was stricken with the H1N1 virus, the Cook County medical examiner’s office said today, citing the Chicago woman’s autopsy results.
The disease was a contributing factor in the death of Carrie Brinson, of the 10200 block of South King Drive, who was pronounced dead at Rush University Medical Center.
Also contributing to the woman’s death were pneumonia and intrauterine pregnancy, the medical examiner’s office said.

The Cuyahoga County Coroner’s Office confirmed to Fox 8 News late Saturday night that all six bodies found on Anthony Sowell’s property, appear to be women. The coroner’s office also confirms that most of the women appear to have been strangled.

2nd of 2 missing men found safe

Chicago police today found the second of two men who separately had been reported missing Friday.

Police today said Edward Skrzyszowski, 72, address not available, was found safe in Naperville, and was in good condition. They did not release additional details.
Skrzyszowski had been last seen by a neighbor about 10 a.m. Friday entering his red 2000 Volvo sedan with Illinois license plate X158744. He was supposed to pick up his wife at her work on the 4200 block of West Grand Avenue but never arrived, police said.
Skrzyszowski is on blood pressure medicine and can become disoriented. He has a prosthetic leg, and has been reported missing three times in the past, police said on Friday.
Another man who had been reported missing early Friday, Floyd Carberry, 80, of the 3000 block of South Lowe Avenue, was located Friday night and safely returned to his family, police said.
He had last been seen on the 600 block of West 31st Street, police said in a community alert. He was described as possibly mentally confused.
Police did not release details on where he was found, but said he was uninjured.

Quinn TV ad says foe ‘hitting a spa’ during budget crisis

The Chicago Tribune’s Clout Street blog reports: The race for the Democratic nomination for governor got more combative today as Gov. Pat Quinn launched a TV ad accusing Comptroller Dan Hynes of skipping out during the state’s budget mess and “hitting a spa in Chicago.” In response, the Hynes campaign said their candidate was merely getting a haircut down the street. The Hynes team also issued a statement using the dreaded-by-Democrats “B” word — Blagojevich — asking what Quinn was doing “while Rod Blagojevich drove the state of Illinois into a ditch.”

Daley says TIF districts are good for the city

The Chicago Tribune’s Clout Street blog reports: Mayor Richard Daley today defended the city’s reliance on special taxing districts to pay for building and renovation projects and said his administration will do a better job educating the public on the benefits. Critics contend that tax-increment financing districts wrongly withhold hundreds of millions of dollars each year from cash-strapped government. Speaking to reporters today after an event in the Brighton Park neighborhood promoting a tree planting program, Daley said the taxing districts are good for Chicago.
