$5,000 reward offered after death of electrician

By Admin on December 25, 2009

The family of an electrician who was found beaten and stabbed to death Wednesday night is offering a $5,000 reward for any information leading to the arrest and conviction of his killer.

mike-de-filippis5.jpgMichael De Filippis, 29, was discovered in his condo unit in the 7000 block of West Grand Avenue, in the city’s Montclare neighborhood, about 9:45 p.m. Wednesday. A friend went over to the condo at the request of his father, who hadn’t heard from De Filippis all day.

An autopsy showed De Filippis died of multiple blunt force injuries and multiple stab wounds.

Police are still investigating the killing. No suspects are in custody, said De Filippis’ sister, Michelle De Filippis-Bernstein. She said police had told the family there were no signs of forced entry to her brother’s home.

“We’re in shock; we’re grieving,” she said. “These people are animals, what they did to my brother. It was vicious and violent.”

The family planned a press conference at 7 p.m. tonight at De Filippis’ condo in the 7000 block of West Grand Avenue. His sister asked anyone with information about the case to call Grand-Central detectives at 312-746-8282.
