DNA leads to church break-in arrest
By Admin on March 5, 2009
After a nearly nine-month investigation, a convicted felon was charged today with breaking into a Crystal Lake church after police identified him from DNA he left behind on an open beer can, authorities said.
James R. Henson, 41, of McHenry was charged with burglary, theft to a place of worship and criminal damage to property in connection with the June 30, 2008 break-in at the Assembly of God Calvary Church, 5906 Route 31, according to the McHenry County sheriff’s office.
Henson, who was already being held at the McHenry County Jail on unrelated car theft charges, was identified as the burglar after authorities matched his DNA to that on an open Busch Light can left behind in the church, police said.
Police said their investigation determined Henson entered the church by prying open a rear service door.
