Pregnant woman shot on Far Southeast Side
By Admin on July 11, 2009
A pregnant woman was shot in the head this evening while driving through the Far Southeast Side, according to a Chicago police spokesman and other sources.
A condition for the 19-year-old woman was unavailable, but she initially went to Advocate Trinity Hospital before being transferred to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn.
The shooting happened about 7:30 p.m. at East 104th Street and South Avenue L in the East Side neighborhood, said Officer Michael Fitzpatrick, the police spokesman.
She was driving with a male passenger when she was shot in the head, he said. The passenger wasn’t hurt.
Sources said the woman was pregnant, but Fitzpatrick could not confirm that. He said no one was in custody and it’s unclear whether the woman was the intended target.
Calumet Area detectives continued to investigate the shooting Friday night.
