Voter registration deadline looms

Tuesday marks an important deadline for voters.

It’s the last day for residents to register to be eligible to vote in the Feb. 2 primary election.

The Chicago Board of Elections notes that it’s the earliest ever deadline for voter registration for a primary — the result of the state law that moved up primary elections from March to February beginning in 2008 as Democrats sought to help favorite son presidential candidate Barack Obama.

Also, the end of the year marks a deadline for campaigns to report contributions.
